Meanings of gemstones are far and wide today, and often used for the metaphysical properties documented throughout history, or decorative jewelry. Gemstones ranging in all size, shapes, and colors that bring the metaphysical users wisdom and remembrance of unconditional love, while being decorative.

Various Gemstones Meanings

The various gemstones meanings correlate with the chakras in metaphysical studies. A practitioner often goes by a deep knowing, or use of his/her gifts, when intuitively guided to use, heal, or wear a gemstone. While this list nowhere nearly has all the gemstones throughout the world, it's a start.

Hematite

The silvery polished surface of the hematite is known as a bloodstone. The hematite gemstone has a use known as scrying. Scrying is equivalent to “looking into the crystal ball”. The polished surface reveals probabilities and outcomes for the carrier of this stone.

Its used as a protection amulet, as it posses (with the silvery polished surface) the ability to deflect unknown harmful, lower negative energy. Through that purpose, if a piece of hematite is around a computer or other microwaves, it will deflect or absorb what energy it can to aid in limiting electromagnetic effects.

Within the Greek culture, it was once considered a bloodstone. This nickname for hematite lives up to it since has a unique metaphysical ability to begin extracting blood impurities – just by carrying it in the right pocket of a pair of pants. *This is in no way a substitution for doctor care if you have blood affectations. I discovered this was a truth through observations when I carried it and visited my doctor.

Red Jasper
Red Jasper

Red Jasper

As a strong protection stone a red jasper will always aid in promoting the highest good to come forward and stability of a person carrying a pieces. Red jasper is to aid in promoting luck, release of stress, and elevating nightmares.

With the fiery red jasper, another attribute is providing encouragement to speak your truth and embrace being a sovereign individual from the ability to speak your truth.

Citrine

Citrine

This lovely piece of gemstone has connection to the Sacral Chakra (creativity and home to the karma belt) and Solar Plexus Chakra (confidence, etc.). Carrying a piece of citrine aids with creativity, clarity of thoughts, and supports increased self-esteem. In turn, with those characteristics – stomach challenges reduce, because of less stress, and unconditional love/self-acceptance begins to mature.

Tigers-Eye

Another gemstone connected to the Sacral and Solar Plexus chakra. When the lower chakras are slightly out of balance (a feeling of agitation, etc.) the tiger's-eye gemstone brings insight and clarity. The stone will gently reinforce the awareness of one's own needs. As a self-nurturing stone (since you can't help but become aware of your needs), it is considered as a stone of good fortune or luck.

Sunstone

Sunstone

A sunstone gemstone is connected to the energy of the sun. The gemstone aids in bringing forward extra energy if under stress, and works wonders with the Law of Attraction. Yay! Manifestation of goals and dreams!

Green Aventurine

Green Aventurine

The association the Green Aventurine gemstone is all about the heart chakra, and balancing the female/male energies. With the wearer in balance, consciously or unconsciously, compassion, energy, and alternative possibilities for resolving challenges.

Green Aventurine is a great gemstone when practicing any heart meditation exercise. An open heart and use of the gemstone provide spiritual protection and freedom from fear or anxiety.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli

The lapis lazuli is strongly connected to the Archangel Michael. The gemstone is a symbol of truth. Though the gemstone is soft and not water friendly, it will aid the throat chakra in powerful compassion of speaking a true with love.

Amethyst

Protection, power, psychic awareness, dream enhancer, mood stabilizer – this stone has it all. The amethyst crystal has associations to the third-eye chakra. A clear and stable third-eye right before, during, and after meditation delivers clear insight. (This is to say, as long as there was a grounding, centering, etc.) The gentle power of the amethyst promotes creativity for those who craft, write, or enjoy the arts.

Turquoise

What an expensive stone to come across, but well worth the invested money. It said that turquoise is the oldest known protection stone. A piece of turquoise deflects negativity and brings in good fortune to the wearer. This means the home, office, car, etc. The uniqueness of turquoise is like that of some crystals – it takes on characteristics of the person who owns it. With that said, it is helpful to set the intention to purchasing a piece of turquoise since there will be characteristics going back and forth.

Yellow Diamond

Diamond

The diamond gemstone has associations to the crown chakra. It is a symbol of innocence, peace, harmony, and constancy. The diamond is rarely looked at for its metaphysical properties, but they are there. Ask yourself: why does it take a while to pick out the perfect engagement or wedding rings? Instinctively – there is a knowing of what the perfect stone is that “calls.”

A word of caution, if there are negative thoughts and emotions, and a diamond ring, bracelet, or necklace is worn, the wearer will have pain sensations. The pain sensations (more of a throbbing) comes by energy being cut off – the diamond has blocked the negative energy.

Golden Healer Crystals

The golden healer crystals is a healing crystal that is often called a Lemurian Golden Healer crystal. The high vibration of this crystal aligns and aids in purging known or unknown imperfections. It aids in creating harmony since it awakens the user to what is called Christ Consciousness. (Basically, the realization that seed of true light is within – God within all things.)

Again, this is a high vibrational crystal. It aids in amplifying other gemstones qualities and users gift of healing.

Cleansing The Stones

For the vast majority of stones, it is safe to cleanse and prep a stone for use by placing them in a bowl of water, and adding salt. For some practitioners, the best cleansing is by following a the waxing and waning of the moon; however, anytime the guidance is there for cleansing – follow it. The best knowing (instincts) come from following the deep down wisdom.

Charging Stones

The two best ways to charge a stone after cleansing them, is (1) allowing a stone to sit under the energy of the sun and (2) holding the stone, and sending it the energy of love. A loving energy opens the stone to its full potential, thus allowing the user their full potential.

Personal Note

Recently, I have taken to putting the stones on a ledge in the kitchen. I've started to notice a difference in the quality and tastes of the foods. Since everything is giving and receiving energy – I feel as if the food is being infused with unconditional love. It does just taste better.

Voted up and interesting.

I'd heard that the various gemstones had associated traditions. But until I read your hub, I didn't have the foggiest idea what they were. I learned something new today.

If you don't mind my asking a stupid question, what about cubic zirconia? I realize that it doesn't exist in Nature. But have modern CZ wearers noticed anything interesting nevertheless?

Rachel Richmond profile image

Rachel Richmond Hub Author 4 months ago

Hello Larry ~ Thank you for reading and voting :)

Actually, the cubic zirconia is a man made stone, like two I'm specifically picture in my mind but can't recall the names, man. Well, the zirconia properties are of virtue and unification. It's suggested the zirconia allows the wearer to see both points of view on situations for greater compassion. I haven't worked with the zirconia, but a friend of mine has, and she says that it does work well (like a quartz crystal) to store information. She doesn't use it often, only in a pinch apparently. :)

Great question

Thanks, Rachel. I almost forgot to mention a gemstone observation of my own.

I have Dysfunctional Sensory Integration. In some ways, I'm hypersensitive to inputs that are very ho-hum for most people. Most of the time, walking into my local supermarket causes a feeling akin to panic, because of the strong fluorescent lighting.

It's very helpful to wear my turquoise ring when I go shopping there. Probably some other gemstone, like sapphire--which like turquoise, is essentially an aluminum salt--would work just as well.

Oh wow. I'd never heard of turquoise doing that before. I typically use black tourmaline and selenite. (Absorbs and grounds, while selenite recharges and keeps clearing.)

This is amazing information Rachel. I am bookmarking your hub so I could save up and buy some of these gemstones. My friend dayzeebee (also a hubber) introduced me to healing crystals when I uncovered my gift of healing. I have much to learn and I enjoyed learning from you. Thanks so much for sharing. :0

Hello Ripplemaker ~ Oh you will love working with gemstones. Remember when picking a stone (1) to hold it to your heart..just ask, "are you the one to work with me?" If you 'sway' forward, that's yes - if you move backwards, that's no. (2) touching and just knowing or (3) Just knowing, aka intuition. :)

Rachel, I have another stoopid question. Are there supposed to be any special qualities associated with Tagua (Palm Ivory)?

Rachel Richmond profile image

Rachel Richmond Hub Author 4 months ago

Hey Larry - no stupid questions. I ask questions so I can learn more...or figure something out. :)

Well, the ivory contains the spirit of the animal it was harvested from. This means that the animal guide is with the person who owns the ivory. For good or ill, as long as the piece of ivory is with them, so too is the animal spirit it's connected too.

It's also (very deeply) connected to Mother Earth. The majority of animals walk on all four feet/paws - this means at times, the ivory can act as a stone would to ground and center a person with Earth.

Great question.

Larry Fields profile image

Larry Fields Level 6 Commenter 4 months ago

Thanks, Rachel. Sorry about not taking the time to articulate the question more clearly.

Although tagua is supposed to look and feel like animal ivory, it comes from certain species of dried palm nuts that grow in Latin America. If you have jewelry or knickknacks made from palm ivory, you need not be concerned about endangering elephants or walruses.

Well, with Ivory on the market like it is - perhaps someone needed to know later on down the line - if they stumble across this article.

With all trees and some shrubs of any kind - the resin is sacred. I haven't heard of it before so I wouldn't be able to adequately answer. :)

Congratulations on your Hubnuggets nomination! Thank you for deepening my knowledge of the meanings and healing potential of gemstones. Just wanted to add that hematite is also wonderful for helping people who suffer from insomnia!

What I loved most about your article was the information about chakra-gemstone associations.

Thanks!

I have such a passion for crystals and gemstones and have a little dish of them on my desk where I work. I wasn't familiar with sunstone, though, so that's one I'll have to add to my wishlist. Interestingly, I know other interpretations for some of them, for example citrine being the 'merchants' stone' which brings good fortune, and the green aventurine also being associated with money. I now keep a small stone of each in my purse - will let you know if / when my fortune arrives!!

@ Lovely 7 ~ Thank you! I have been nominated for another HugNugget too! Woo hoo!! Thank you for voting :) hee

@ Riviera Rose ~ LOL, working with your foods and stones, ooo wee, you are going to be rolln' in prosperity.

Yes the citrine and green aventurine are excellent for fortune..it's just a matter of having that mindset. They come from nature, so everything will be naturally coming to be recognized :) Hugs!
